Zurab Pataradze Inspects Infrastructural Developments and Ongoing Projects in Keda Municipality

The Chairman of the Government of Ajara, Zurab Pataradze, conducted an official inspection of ongoing infrastructural developments and regional projects within the Keda Municipality.

The Chairman reviewed the progress of the road infrastructure along the Merisi-Namonastrevi route, evaluated the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Merisi Public School, and inspected the restoration works in Keda Central Park, which had been severely damaged by a natural disaster.

According to Zurab Pataradze, extensive infrastructural initiatives are actively underway across all municipalities. He emphasized that upgrading road networks and vital communication arteries remains a core strategic priority for the government to support and empower the highlands.

"Our long-term vision is fundamentally anchored in the empowerment of mountainous Ajara, and the ongoing initiatives in Keda Municipality directly serve this objective. We have thoroughly reviewed the progress of the Merisi-Namonastrevi road rehabilitation project in the Merisi Gorge. This new infrastructure will connect the Merisi Gorge with the Shuakhevi Municipality and Mount Ghoma, thereby facilitating local mobility and substantially enhancing the municipality’s tourism potential. Interest in mountainous Ajara grows exponentially each year, rendering a well-integrated infrastructure and road network highly essential. Furthermore, the rehabilitation project of the Merisi Public School will completely modernize the educational environment, equipping the institution with state-of-the-art facilities. These works are slated for completion this October, providing students with the opportunity to pursue education in an advanced, well-equipped academic setting. Today, we also engaged in a direct dialogue with the local population to discuss current community needs and ongoing projects. Through these targeted initiatives, we are fostering superior living conditions for our citizens and strengthening the entire region," stated Zurab Pataradze.

The rehabilitation of the 3.3-kilometer road section in the village of Merisi is currently in an active phase of execution. Reinforced cement-concrete pavement has already been successfully laid across specific segments, and the construction of protective and artificial engineering structures is underway. The project, which represents an investment of over 3.5 million GEL, is scheduled for completion within the current year. The modernized roadway is expected to optimize local transit and catalyze the full utilization of the area's ecotourism prospects.

Concurrently, large-scale reconstruction is underway at the Fridon Turmanidze Public School in Merisi. While the original facility accommodated approximately 100 students, the newly redesigned and expanded building will feature a capacity for up to 300 pupils. The project entails a complete modernization of internal spaces, including classrooms, a gymnasium, and a library, alongside extensive landscaping of the surrounding grounds and the installation of an advanced fire alarm system. These works are on track to be finalized this October.

Additionally, the Chairman inspected the reinforcement and restoration works of the damaged embankment wall at the Fridon Khalvashi Central Park, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. During his meeting with the local community, Zurab Pataradze reiterated that the government's primary mandate remains the robust development of rural infrastructure, the creation of dignified living conditions, and the maximization of the municipality’s unique tourism assets.

The site inspection was attended by the Head of the Ajara Roads Department, Zaza Shavadze; the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of Ajara, Maia Khajishvili; the Mayor of Keda Municipality, Mamuka Turmanidze; the Chairman of the Keda Sakrebulo, Amiran Tsintsadze; Member of the Parliament of Georgia, Anzor Bolkvadze; alongside other high-level representatives from the Supreme Council of Ajara and local self-government bodies.
