Sulkhan Tamazashvili: We are Committed to Maintaining Long-term Support for Farmers in order to Promote Further Growth in the Region’s Agricultural Sector

Sulkhan Tamazashvili, the Chairman of the Government of Ajara together with Denis Salukvadze, the Minister of Agriculture of Ajara held a meeting with members of the Citrus Coordination Headquarters and managers of citrus receiving and processing enterprises.

The meeting attendees summarised Citrus Coordination Headquarters’ activities. The Chairman noted that the citrus season was held without significant disruptions as a result of coordinated work.

‘The citrus season has finished successfully. As a result of a coordinated work, the process was held without having significant disruptions having a positive impact on the final results. More than 27 000 tonnes of standard tangerine, amounting to more than 43 million Gel, have been exported. We are committed to maintaining long-term support for farmers in order to promote further growth in the region’s agricultural sector,’ – Sulkhan Tamazashvili said.

They also talked about the results reached during the season and discussed the ways to address existing challenges. Special emphasis was placed on farmer support systems, the citrus sales process, and opportunities to improve product quality.

The Citrus Coordination Headquarters, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, has been functioning for two months.

It is worth noting that during the 2025-2026 citrus season, the prime minister issued a decree allocating more than 2.5 million GEL in subsidies from the Georgian government's reserve fund to assist the sale of poor tangerine crops. During the season, over 20 enterprises received export tangerines, while two canneries in Kobuleti processed subpar fruits.

The Head of the Apparatus of the Government of Ajara, members of the Supreme Council of Ajara and the Mayors of Khelvachauri and Kobuleti attended the meeting.
