Sulkhan Tamazashvili: Teaching the Abkhazian Language is not only about mastering the language, it is about sharing a great culture and history

Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Chairman of the Government of Ajara together with Giorgi Jintcharadze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia visited the public school in the village of Periya, Khelvachauri Mumicipality. 

The Government officials got introduced to the Abkhazian Language Teaching Program. The Abkhazian language has been taught at this school for ten years with the support of the Government of Ajara and funding from the Ministry of Education and Sports of Ajara.

In his speech, Sulkhan Tamazashvili thanked the representatives of the educational sector and noted that teaching the Abkhazian language does not only mean mastering the language, it is also sharing a great culture and history.  

The event was also addressed by the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and the Chairman of the Temporary Commission of the Parliament of Georgia on the Restoration of Territorial Integrity and Deoccupation Issues, First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Giorgi Volski. 

In parallel with teaching the Abkhazian language at the public school in the village of Periya, students are actively involved in cultural and creative activities. As part of the event, the school’s theater troupe performed the musical ‘Lampions’. 

Members of the Parliament of Georgia, representatives of the Government of Ajara, the Government of Abkhazia and local self-government attended the event.
