Sulkhan Tamazashvili: Batumi to Once Again Prove Itself a Worthy Host of Major International Events

Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Chairman of the Government of Ajara, attended the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championships at Batumi Sports Palace.

Addressing the audience, the Chairman wished success to the participants and noted that Batumi will once again prove itself a worthy host of such a large-scale international event.

‘I am proud that the European Weightlifting Championships are taking place in Batumi. The city will once again demonstrate its ability to host major international events at the highest level. I would like to wish every athlete success. You are the best example of dedication and hard work. Georgia has always achieved outstanding results in weightlifting, and we are proud to have living legends among us. I would also like to thank everyone involved in organizing this important event,’ said Sulkhan Tamazashvili.

The Minister of Sport of Georgia, Shalva Gogoladze; the President of the European Weightlifting Federation, Astrit Hasani; and the President of the Georgian National Weightlifting Federation, Lasha Talakhadze, also addressed the audience.

As part of the event, Lasha Talakhadze presented an award to Sulkhan Tamazashvili for his contribution to promoting sports in the region.

The European Weightlifting Championships are organized by the Georgian National Weightlifting Federation with the support of the Government of Ajara and the Ministry of Sport of Georgia. Georgia is hosting the championships for the third time, while Batumi is hosting them for the second time.

Tsotne Ananidze, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Ajara; Maia Khajishvili, Minister of Education and Sports of Ajara; and representatives of the legislative and executive authorities attended the opening ceremony.
