Citrus Coordination Headquarters launched

In order to facilitate the smooth implementation and realization of the citrus season, the Citrus Coordination Headquarters has been launched.

The Chairman of the Government of Ajara, Sulkhan Tamazashvili, together with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Davit Songhulashvili, and the Minister of Agriculture of Ajara, Denis Salukvadze, opened the Coordination Headquarters.

According to Sulkhan Tamazashvili, with the tireless labour of local farmers and the backing of the state, the quantity and quality of the harvest are improving year after year.

Parallel to the headquarters' opening, Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Davit Songhulashvili, and Denis Salukvadze spoke with citrus producers and learned about the current processes.

The Ajara government has decided to establish a state subsidy of 35 tetri for industrial processing (non-standard) mandarins. The firm will pay an additional 5 tetri, and mandarins for industrial processing will cost 40 tetri.

According to projected statistics for this year, a citrus harvest of 60-65 thousand tonnes is expected, which is approximately 30% higher than previous year. More than 20 export mandarins and two canneries in Kobuleti would get substandard fruits.
