Chairman of the Government of Ajara Pays Tribute to the Heroes of the Battle of Shindisi

The Chairman of the Government of Ajara, Zurab Pataradze, alongside the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Ajara, Tsotne Ananidze, and the Mayor of Batumi, Giorgi Tsintsadze, paid tribute to the memory of the Georgian servicemen who heroically lost their lives near the village of Shindisi during the August 2008 war.

The officials laid wreaths of flowers at the memorial located in Shindisi Heroes Square.The Chairman of the Government emphasized that the ultimate sacrifice made by the heroes of Shindisi endures as an everlasting symbol of patriotism, love for the homeland, and the unwavering struggle for the country's territorial integrity.

“Every year, we honor the memory of the heroes of Shindisi, individuals who gave their lives for the unity and sovereignty of our nation," stated Chairman Zurab Pataradze. "While today is a tragic and profoundly difficult day, it is equally a day that fills our hearts with pride and dignity. A new generation is being raised on the example of their self-sacrifice, which serves as a definitive testament to how one should love and serve their country. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to their families and pay profound respect to the memory of our fallen heroes.”

The commemorative ceremony honoring the fallen soldiers was attended by leadership from the Government of Ajara, the Supreme Council, Batumi City Hall, and the Batumi City Council. Representatives from the Ajara Department of the State Service for Veterans Affairs and the Georgian Maritime Transport Agency were also present to pay their respects.

The engagement near the village of Shindisi on August 11, 2008, remains one of the most severe and heroic episodes of the Russia-Georgia war. During the battle, 17 servicemen of the Georgian Armed Forces were killed, including two fighters hailing from the Ajara region.
