Chairman of the Government of Ajara Meets with Farmers Benefiting from Agricultural Programmes in Khulo Municipality
Zurab Pataradze, Chairman of the Government of Ajara, together with Denis Salukvadze, Minister of Agriculture of Ajara, met with farmers in Khulo Municipality.
The meeting focused on the availability of quality seeds, the improvement of irrigation systems, and financial support opportunities for farmers.
Addressing the farmers, the Chairman noted that Khulo has traditionally been distinguished by potato farming and emphasized the importance of ensuring that local farmers have the opportunity to produce high-quality and competitive products. According to him, it is important for the local population to feel strong support from the state in both technical and financial terms.
‘Alongside infrastructure projects, it is equally important to strengthen our farmers, observe spring agricultural works on site, and maintain direct communication with them. Khulo is distinguished by its diversity and agricultural potential. I am confident that the programmes implemented by the Government of Georgia and supported by the Government of Ajara will further support farmers living in the highlands of Ajara.
Caring for our population, introducing new projects and innovations, and supporting mountain regions remain among our key priorities. Well-developed infrastructure, together with active government support, is essential for achieving these goals, and we are fully prepared for this,’ said Zurab Pataradze.
The Scientific Research Center donated 3,000 kilograms of Meskhetian red potato seed material to farmers free of charge. Demonstration plots will be arranged using the seed material, contributing to the reproduction of highly productive elite seeds in the region and increasing yields in the potato-growing sector.
Today’s meeting focused on discussing the needs and challenges faced by potato farmers in Khulo Municipality, as well as presenting programmes planned for agricultural development.
Anzor Bolkvadze, Member of the Parliament of Georgia; Vakhtang Beridze, Mayor of Khulo; and representatives of the local self-government also attended the meeting.
