Chairman of the Government of Ajara Inspects Major Road Infrastructure Projects in Mountainous Ajara

The Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Zurab Pataradze, conducted an inspection of ongoing road infrastructure projects, focusing on the rehabilitation of both inter-village and central highways across mountainous Ajara.

According to the Chairman, these infrastructure initiatives will significantly improve the daily lives of local residents, enhance accessibility to key tourist destinations, and drive economic growth across mountainous municipalities.

"Today, we inspected several vital road infrastructure developments in mountainous Ajara. The majority of the works on the Shuakhevi-Khulo section of the Batumi-Akhaltsikhe secondary state road are now complete, ensuring faster, safer, and more comfortable travel. We also reviewed the construction of the connecting road linking Danisparauli, Mtsvane Tba, Shavi Tba, and the Goderdzi Pass, alongside ongoing progress on the Khulo-Zarzmi highway. These projects are critical to opening up our tourist locations and guaranteeing a smooth travel experience for both locals and visitors," stated Zurab Pataradze.

A key focus of the tour was the rehabilitation of a 13.3-kilometer segment (km 69-79) of the Batumi-Akhaltsikhe highway. This project involves a complete overhaul of the road surface, which will substantially upgrade transit safety and convenience upon completion.

Additionally, Zurab Pataradze inspected the 6.2-kilometer road upgrade along the Danisparauli-Velati-Mtsvane Tba route. Once finalized, this modernized corridor will seamlessly connect the village of Danisparauli with Mtsvane Tba and the Goderdzi Pass, securing safe and efficient mobility.

Meanwhile, the extensive modernization of the Khulo-Zarzmi road section is moving ahead rapidly. Current operations include the installation of bus shelters alongside upper and lower retaining walls. In total, the rehabilitation and reconstruction cover a 47-kilometer stretch. Specialized structural works are also underway on landslide-prone sections, featuring slope stabilization, deep drilling, well placement, and retaining wall reinforcement. The fully renovated highway will link the Ajara and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions via the shortest available route, dramatically increasing road safety and cutting travel time between Batumi and Akhaltsikhe by approximately 1.5 hours. The project remains on track for completion within the current calendar year.

The Chairman was accompanied during the site inspections by Ednar Nataridze, Minister of Finance and Economy of Ajara; Zaza Shavadze, Head of the Ajara Roads Department; Anzor Bolkvadze, Member of the Parliament of Georgia; Minur Paksadze, Member of the Supreme Council of Ajara; Nadim Vasadze, Deputy Mayor of Khulo Municipality; Renar Bolkvadze, Chairman of the Khulo Municipality Sakrebulo; and Omar Takidze, Mayor of Shuakhevi Municipality.
