Ajara Government Session

Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Chairman of the Government of Ajara, opened the government session by reviewing the results of October, noting that the past month marked a significant achievement not only for the region but for the country as a whole.

‘I would like to congratulate the mayors attending today’s session on the start of their tenure. Our team’s mission over the next four years is to ensure effective governance at the local level, with strong public engagement,’ said Sulkhan Tamazashvili.

Work on the 2026 budget of Ajara has been completed. The next year’s republican budget exceeds one billion GEL, marking a record high, while projected revenues amount to approximately 800 million GEL.

‘These indicators demonstrate that the region’s economy is developing steadily and effectively. This translates into increased prosperity and new opportunities for our citizens, as well as expanded programmes in the social, healthcare, agricultural, and educational sectors,’ the Chairman stated.

According to Sulkhan Tamazashvili, the citrus harvest season has begun in Ajara, representing a key component of the regional economy. Based on projections, the harvest volume is expected to increase by 30% compared to the previous year. A Citrus Coordination Headquarters has been established to ensure the smooth conduct of the season and facilitate product sales.

The Chairman also highlighted the region’s international and educational achievements. Batumi was named one of Europe’s leading four-season tourist destinations at the World Tourism Awards, further strengthening the region’s position on the global tourism map.

Progress in the education sector was also noted. Among the ten winners of the National Teacher Award, two are from Ajara.
